Odenwolf is a German knife brand that sells almost everything in timed drops. They announce a model, take preorders, close the window, produce the run, and sell out. As of August 2026 every product in their catalog is listed sold out in most color variants. That is not a company in trouble. That is the business model.
We have reviewed six of their knives and cover each new launch. This page tracks the current line, what the specs actually mean, and which model is worth your money.
The APO-1X and APO-1S launch August 31
Odenwolf is producing the next generation of Survival Lilly’s APO knives. Preorders open August 31 and the presale runs seven days. The launch bundle is both knives for $199 with a neck knife included, against $275 buying them separately later. Deposit is $10 per knife with the balance charged at ship time, estimated February 2027.

The current line
Two tiers, and the gap between them is the whole story. The 420 stainless models run 52 HRC. The D2 models run 60 to 61 HRC. That is a large difference in edge retention for a $20 difference in price.

Every model in the line uses a textured TPE handle and a polypropylene sheath. That is the tradeoff that keeps the prices where they are. TPE grips well wet and costs a fraction of G10 or micarta, and molded polypropylene is not Kydex. If you want a leather dangler and a scale you can refinish, this is not the brand.
Which one to buy
Buy the W SCANDI at $39.90. D2 at 60 HRC, 4.53 inch blade, full tang, under six ounces. A scandi grind is the easiest geometry to maintain in the field with a flat stone, and it carves wood better than the flat-ground alternative at the same price. This is the model that makes the brand worth writing about.
Buy the W FLAT instead if you process more game than wood. Same steel, same hardness, same dimensions, 0.7 ounces lighter. Flat grind slices better and is more forgiving across mixed tasks. The choice between these two is genuinely about what you cut, not about which is better.
Skip the 420 models unless price is the only constraint. The HUNTER and HUNTER 2 are $19.90 and they are honest about what they are, but 420 at 52 HRC is soft. You will be touching that edge up constantly. Odenwolf markets the easy resharpening as a feature, which is a fair way to describe a blade that does not hold an edge. For $20 more you get D2 at 60 HRC, and that is the best twenty dollars in the catalog.
The W MACHETE is a specialist tool. 20 ounces, 17.72 inches, 0.20 inch stock, D2 at 61 HRC. That is a heavy chopper and D2 is not the usual choice for one, since it is more brittle than the carbon steels most machetes use. It clears brush well. Do not buy it expecting a general camp knife.
What Odenwolf does not tell you
Country of manufacture is not stated on any product page. The brand is German and the marketing leans on German quality standards, but that language describes a standard, not a factory location. We have asked and will update this page if we get an answer.
Blade grind is unlisted on most models. Steel and hardness are published consistently, which is more than many brands at this price do, but you are often guessing at geometry from the product photos.
Stock is the real constraint. Between drops there is nothing to buy, and the presale window is usually about a week. If a model you want is listed sold out, the answer is the next launch, not a restock.
